One of my favorite days. This morning has been a productive one, to Jaxon’s dismay
Bath day! That’s right, sir. If you’re gonna go meandering through the ‘hood, you need to look like someone loves you.
He hates me.
Something we have in common: Love for Nike Air Max.
Today I’ll be finishing up an interesting case study for my lifespan nutrition course. My hypothetical patient is pregnant with a calorie deficit from working out without meeting her caloric needs. I’m really surprised by how much I’m loving learning about pregnancy nutrition! REALLY cool stuff!
After that’s done, today is HIIT day, followed by weights. Dear Lord, give me abs.
I recently made a life change that deserves a shout-out on the blog:
deactivated deleted my Facebook.
I’ve been trying to utilize my time more effectively, and I couldn’t come up with any solid reason to keep my Facebook (other than, “Hey! What if someone wants to read my blog AND find me on Facebook? eh. Oh well.”). All the people I know and love talk to me on a weekly basis, and we keep up with each other purposefully, so I feel that using Facebook as a way to maintain social connections is superfluous. I’m also working on purging negativity from my life, and all I ever saw on Facebook were crappy, misinformed political memes and half-truths even after trying to filter them out of my newsfeed…which made me incredibly frustrated. Can we at least pretend to be smart people? And SO MUCH HATRED. Ugh. So no more Facebook! Bye, FB! See ya never!
Since Fridays are all about fun, I thought I’d do a “get to know me better” survey. I find out often that I have odd connections with people when I read through these, so maybe you will too!
1. Are you named after anyone?
Yes! My middle name, Nell, comes from my mom’s best childhood friend who tragically died in a horseback riding accident in the late eighties. I’ve been told that I act like her.
2. Do you have siblings?
I have one older sister and one younger sister. Shoutout to the middle children!
I’m closer in age with my younger sister, and we do everything together.
3. Where did you grow up?
The enchanted gulf-coast of Texas (and by enchanted I mean polluted), but I loved it.
4. What activities did you do in high school?
Being a baton twirler was my claim to fame. Think Miss Congeniality. Yes.
5. Where did you attend college?
The University of Texas at Austin- Hook ‘Em!
Currently online through Kansas State University working on a Dietetics degree
6. What activities did you do in college?
I did some volunteer work, and tried to find myself in a couple of collegiate clubs- ha. Mostly I enjoyed eating, hiking, and exploring all over Austin with my best friends.
7. What did you study in college?
I started out thinking “I want to be a nurse!” and ended with a Sociology degree, but then I got really interested in nutrition…which lead me to pursue a Dietetics degree. I like to adventure.
8. First job out of college?
Working the night shift for an oncology unit as an administrative assistant in the Texas Medical Center. I learned SO much with this job. Namely, that night shift causes flare ups. I also worked with stellar people.
9. What kind of music do you like?
This morning I was listening to Van Morrison. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justin Timberlake, The Black Keys, Sinatra, Etta James, Hozier, SHANIA, Lynard Skynard (Tuesday’s Gone is my favorite ever song), The Eagles, Cage the Elephant, Queen, Houndmouth, Bon Iver, Elton John, Shakey Graves, RYAN BINGHAM, Turnpike Troubadours, 90s Country (Alan Jackson, George Strait- only the good stuff), but I’m also a sucker for some “Teenage Dream” every once in awhile. Be your teenage dream tonight.
10. What’s one hobby that you’d like to take up?
Dance! My nephew and I took a dance course together (hilarious), but it was SO.MUCH.FUN. I’d love to learn salsa, bachata, tango. AH! Looks so fun.
11. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I was OBSESSED with Free Willy, and I told everyone that I was going to be a “Marine Biologist” as a four year old. I remember being frustrated when people thought it was cute and I was like, “No, I’m serious.”
Other than that I wanted to be an Olympic Figure Skater. Confession: I still do.
12. What’s the biggest project on your to-do list currently?
Give dietetics my all. Blog good stuff. Fix my hair.
13. Any irrational fears?
Repeating nightmare: falling backward off a steep bridge in my car. Unfortunately, I spent a large portion of my time living in Houston petrified of overpasses as a result, and it took YEARS for me to talk myself into overcoming that. I still get nervous, but I’m like, “Dammit, Stacey. You can do this. Foot on the accelerator.” And then I’m good!
14. Ever traveled abroad?
Yes! Heathrow Airport (I feel like that should count because it was a 12 hour layover), Italy, and Greece! I’d live in the Greek isles any day. Now? Let’s go.
15. Next vacation?
In a few weeks we mayyyyy be going to New Mexico. Tentative.
16. What’s one talent you wish you had?
I want to learn to backflip. I feel like you need talent for that, because I’ve never done one.
17. What’s something you wish you did more of?
18. Dream job?
I want to travel places and eat things. HOW do people get paid to do that?
19. Favorite animal?
Dogs! Specifically, all of them. And dolphins. And whales.
20. Any tattoos?
No, but I REALLY want one. I will likely never get one, because I’m not sure what I’d want for forever. But really: Is it socially acceptable for adults to wear temporary tattoos?
Hope you have a really great weekend! We are going hiking at a wildlife refuge, and I am PUMPED! Feel free to answer any of the questions or all of them! Or none of them.
